Former Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has strongly criticised Argentina’s players following their conduct after losing the World Cup final 1–0 to Spain national football team.
The match, which took place in New Jersey, ended in controversy as tensions flared after the final whistle. Players and coaching staff from both sides were involved in a heated confrontation, with reports of physical altercations between members of the two teams.
Argentina’s Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina were reportedly seen clashing with Spain’s Eric García and Rodri, while assistant coach Roberto Ayala was also alleged to have struck Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo.

Reacting to the incident on his Global Football Insights platform, Oliseh described Argentina’s actions as a “bad advertisement for football,” emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, especially on such a global stage.
“I’m grateful Spain won for the sake of football,” Oliseh said. “They played positive football, and that should always be rewarded. What we saw after the match from Argentina was disappointing. You don’t engage in fights after a World Cup final—it sends the wrong message.”
Spain’s triumph has since been widely praised, not only for their performance on the pitch but also for maintaining composure amid the post-match chaos.
