The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reportedly withdrawn corps members serving in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following rising security concerns linked to fears of possible abductions in the area.
According to affected corps members, they received sudden redeployment letters shortly after the Eid-el-Kabir holiday and were instructed to relocate immediately to safer local government areas within the state.
One of the corps members said the decision followed intelligence suggesting that corps members could be targeted.
“We received our reposting letters on Friday and were told to move immediately.
They said it was for our safety because of reports that terrorists may target corps members in Kaiama,” the corps member said.
Another corps member said there had been growing fears and repeated rumours of kidnapping threats in the area.
“There have been persistent rumours that armed groups want to kidnap corps members so they can demand ransom,” the corps member added.

A local youth leader in Kaiama also confirmed that all corps members had been moved out of the area due to the security situation. He noted, however, that many of the affected corps members were reluctant to leave.
“Yes, all the corps members have been reposted because of the security situation. But interestingly, most of them didn’t want to leave Kaiama,” he said.
He further disclosed that NYSC authorities had suspended new postings to the area for the time being.
The development comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Kwara North, where reports of kidnappings and attacks have increased in recent weeks.
The situation has been linked to suspected activities of armed groups operating in nearby forested areas, with residents expressing fear over possible spillover attacks.
Community members and youth groups in Kaiama have repeatedly called on authorities to strengthen security presence in the area and ensure the protection of residents, students, and young professionals posted under the NYSC scheme.
The withdrawal of corps members has further heightened anxiety in the community, raising fresh concerns about safety in rural parts of the state.
