The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has arrested three suspects over the alleged vandalism and theft of government property in Onitsha.
The suspects were arrested on Monday evening by NSCDC operatives working with the Agunaechemba Security Outfit while allegedly vandalising government facilities located within the Onitsha South Local Government Area.
The Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the command, SC Edwin Okadigbo, disclosed the arrest on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the command’s recent operational achievements.
According to Okadigbo, the suspects were identified as Oseloka Anyaorah of Onitsha Umuasi, who claimed to be the Chairman of Ogbo Family, as well as John Nwobodo and Ifeanyi Nwancho, who reportedly claimed to be Anyaorah’s workers at the site.
Items recovered from them included a government signpost, zinc sheets, nails and other building materials.
Okadigbo said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly conspired to damage and remove parts of government infrastructure belonging to the Onitsha South Local Government Area.
He added that the recovered vandalised materials had been taken into NSCDC custody.

The State Commandant, Olatunde Maku, condemned the incident, describing the vandalism of public property as economic sabotage against the government and people of Anambra State.
Maku reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure and directed that the suspects be properly profiled and prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
He also urged traditional rulers, town union leaders and residents to provide security agencies with timely information to help prevent further vandalism of government facilities.
