The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, has uncovered a residential building allegedly being used as a warehouse for storing large quantities of cannabis in Edo State, leading to the seizure of more than 1.3 tonnes of illicit substances.
The operation, carried out in the Illushi community of Esan South-East Local Government Area, targeted a four-bedroom bungalow suspected of serving as a major storage point for illegal drugs.
During the raid, security operatives arrested two suspects identified as Ojore Onweze, 45, and George Agwumede, 30. The suspects were reportedly found with additional quantities of cannabis at the time of their arrest.
According to the NDLEA, officers recovered 1,273 kilograms of processed cannabis alongside 86 kilograms of cannabis seeds from the building. The haul also included dozens of large bags and containers filled with the illicit substance, bringing the total weight of the seizure to approximately 1,359 kilograms.
The agency described the discovery as a significant breakthrough in its campaign against drug trafficking and warned that the use of residential properties as storage facilities for narcotics poses a serious threat to public safety.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities within their neighbourhoods, emphasizing that tackling drug trafficking requires collective action.
Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the operation and dismantle the wider network behind the illegal warehouse. The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that those involved in the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs are brought to justice.
