The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 329,865.585 kilograms of illicit drugs valued at over ₦301 billion in Lagos State.
The exercise, which took place at Navy Town in Ojo on Monday, was carried out following authorization from the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The destroyed substances were confiscated from completed and uncontested cases, as well as abandoned drug seizures.
According to the agency, 246,864.535 kilograms of the drugs were seized by the Lagos Strategic Command between April 2025 and May 2026, while 83,001.05 kilograms were recovered by other operational units, including the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, Tincan and Apapa Strategic Commands, Marine Command, and a Special Operations Unit operating within Lagos.
The destroyed substances included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, tramadol, codeine syrup, ephedrine, other opioids, and khat leaves.
Speaking during the exercise, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), described the destruction as a strong demonstration of Nigeria’s commitment to eliminating illegal drugs and protecting communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse and trafficking.
Marwa noted that drug trafficking contributes to several social and economic challenges, including addiction, increased healthcare costs, reduced productivity, and rising criminal activities.
