The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested several suspects and seized large quantities of illicit drugs concealed in cargoes, music speakers and loaves of bread across different states.
The NDLEA said its operatives intercepted two consignments of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis strain, from the United Kingdom at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
One of the consignments contained 27 parcels weighing 32.20kg. A real estate agent, Abideen Jide Salami, was arrested on September 9 after allegedly arriving to collect the luggage with a secret code reportedly sent by his brother in the UK.
In a separate operation, 44-year-old Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri was arrested in connection with another UK consignment containing 12.25kg of Colorado. He reportedly told investigators that his brother sent the drugs to him.
NDLEA operatives also intercepted Colorado concealed inside music speakers at motor parks in Lagos. A tour agent, Ifeanyi Augustine, 41, and the alleged owner of the consignment, Obasi Ugochuckwu, 46, were arrested during a sting operation.
Another suspect, Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry, was arrested at Iddo Motor Park while allegedly attempting to send 2.1kg of Colorado to Kano.
In Kano State, the agency arrested 20-year-old Saidu Adamu with 785,000 capsules of pregabalin weighing 669.425kg. Operatives also seized 1,700 tablets of diazepam allegedly hidden inside loaves of bread and arrested 28-year-old Habibu Sabitu.

In Plateau State, NDLEA operatives arrested 51-year-old Chinedu Uzor at Katako Market in Jos with 157,100 capsules of tramadol.
The agency also reported major cannabis seizures in Edo, Ondo, Kaduna and Bayelsa states. In Edo, 4,832.56kg of cannabis was destroyed on farms, while several suspects were arrested in connection with cannabis cultivation and distribution.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers involved in the operations and urged them to continue disrupting the supply routes used by drug traffickers across the country.
