The Zamfara State Police Command has launched a coordinated operation to rescue six Islamic clerics abducted by armed bandits in Bakura Local Government Area.
The clerics were reportedly kidnapped on Saturday, September 12, 2026, around 11:30 a.m. along the Dakko–Damri feeder road while travelling to Talata Mafara.
The bandits, said to be heavily armed, reportedly ambushed the vehicle conveying the victims and forced them into the surrounding area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the command immediately responded after receiving information about the incident.
According to him, the Divisional Police Officer in Bakura mobilised police personnel, members of the Vigilante and Crime Response Unit, and other security agencies to the area.
The security team has since commenced an intensive search of the surrounding bushes in an effort to locate and rescue the abducted clerics and arrest those responsible.

The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara, CP Ahmed Bello, has directed the operatives to intensify the operation and deploy all available resources to secure the safe release of the victims.
The police also appealed to residents to provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in rescuing the clerics and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
