
Several civilians were reportedly killed after a military airstrike struck Guradnayi village near Kusasu in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026.
The incident reportedly occurred around 5:00 a.m. while military aircraft were pursuing armed terrorists moving through the area on motorcycles.
Residents said the airstrike mistakenly hit civilians who were fleeing from the terrorists. According to local sources, at least 12 people were killed in one compound alone.

A resident of Kusasu, identified as Auta Awododo, said one of the victims was his cousin’s son.
“It happened around 5 a.m.
Twelve people were killed in his house,” he said. “The rest were Kusasu people who were fleeing from the terrorists.”
Another resident explained that the military first dropped a bomb near a river in Kusasu before a second strike hit Guradnayi village.
The tragic incident is the latest in a series of accidental airstrikes affecting rural communities in conflict-hit areas across Nigeria.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Air Force had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
