A contractor handling the construction of a three-storey building in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State has reportedly gone into hiding after the structure collapsed in the early hours of Thursday.
The incident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. at No. 7 Chima Otuka Street in the Umuozue area, just hours after construction workers had completed their duties and left the site on Wednesday evening.
Although no casualties have been reported, the collapsed building damaged a vehicle and other property belonging to a resident living in a nearby house.

Residents of the community disclosed that parapet work on the building was completed shortly before the incident, raising concerns about the structural integrity of the construction.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the collapse. However, officials from the Osisioma Ngwa Town Planning Office have sealed off the construction site to allow for a thorough investigation.
The incident has renewed concerns about compliance with building regulations and the need for stricter monitoring of construction projects across the state.
As investigations continue, residents are calling on relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
