The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man after recovering 19 cattle suspected to have been stolen during an intelligence-led operation in Bursari Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Garin Alkali Divisional Police Headquarters after security personnel acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected stolen livestock.
Police identified the suspect as Umar Sanda, a resident of Lafiya Fulani Settlement in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He was intercepted on the outskirts of Dumburi Village in Masaba Ward while in possession of the cattle under suspicious circumstances.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly claimed that the animals belonged to his brother. However, investigators said he failed to provide convincing evidence or documentation to establish lawful ownership of the livestock.
The suspect has since been taken into police custody, while the 19 cattle have been secured as authorities continue investigations to determine their rightful owners and establish whether the case is linked to cattle rustling or other related offences.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cattle rustling and other forms of criminal activity across the state. He also urged livestock owners and members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist security agencies in preventing and detecting crime.
