Residents of Fego and Ruga Maikasuwa communities in the Gwana Emirate, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, have called for urgent security reinforcement following a renewed attack by armed men that left six people injured and several livestock stolen.
The incident, which occurred late Saturday night and continued into the early hours of Sunday, has reignited fear among residents who were only beginning to recover from previous waves of insecurity in the area.
A representative of the Gwana Islamic scholars, Sheikh Yusuf Bello Gafakan, confirmed that the attackers stormed Ruga Maikasuwa one of the communities frequently targeted in recent months.
He explained that earlier attacks had forced many residents to flee to neighbouring Gombe State and other locations, but improved security efforts had encouraged their return.
“Unfortunately, the gunmen returned heavily armed and launched another attack. Six people were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Gombe Specialist Hospital,” he said.

According to him, the assailants made away with cattle, other farm animals, and valuables belonging to residents. It remains unclear whether any abductions occurred during the incident.
Community members reportedly attempted to resist the attackers, forcing them to retreat with only the items they could carry.
Sheikh Yusuf urged the Bauchi State Government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts in safeguarding the area, stressing that the current security presence is inadequate.
He specifically called for the establishment of a military formation in Gwana, noting that the emirate’s proximity to multiple state borders and surrounding forest reserves—including the Yankari axis—makes it vulnerable to criminal activities and provides hideouts for armed groups.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, stated that he had yet to receive an official report of the incident but assured that necessary steps would be taken after confirming details from the Divisional Police Officer in Alkaleri.
