Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has announced that he is undergoing treatment for cancer, sharing the news in a social media statement and asking for privacy for his family.
The former Liverpool and Celtic striker said the diagnosis was meant to remain private but became public after an unintended social media post. “I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well,” Dalglish wrote.
He expressed regret that the matter had become public and asked for respect for his family’s privacy. “Ideally, this would have remained private because that’s the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand,” he said.

Dalglish also thanked the medical staff supporting his care, praising their professionalism and discretion. “As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves,” he added.
The 75-year-old is regarded as one of British football’s greatest players. He scored 167 goals in 320 appearances for Celtic between 1969 and 1977 before joining Liverpool, where he made 515 appearances and became a club icon. He also scored 30 goals in 102 caps for Scotland.
Liverpool issued a statement following the announcement, saying, “The support, best wishes and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will be, with Sir Kenny and his family.” The club also echoed his request for privacy.
