Afrobeats singer Skales has advised Nigerian youths to make leaving the country their top priority, saying it offers a better chance at survival and achieving their goals.
In a post on X, the singer, whose real name is Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, wrote that for young Nigerians, the biggest dream should be to emigrate so they can stay alive and pursue their ambitions in a safer environment.
His comment sparked mixed reactions online, with many accusing him of promoting brain drain instead of encouraging citizens to demand better governance at home.
Critics argued that his claim that life and security are guaranteed abroad was misleading. Some pointed to racism and other challenges Nigerians face overseas, while others said it was unfair for someone who built his career in Nigeria to speak against the country.

One commenter, JohnBullaSings, wrote that the advice did not apply to everyone and questioned whether encouraging people to leave was helping to solve Nigeria’s problems. Another user, Sally, said migrating abroad did not automatically guarantee safety, adding that Nigeria’s challenges stemmed largely from its people, not the country itself.
Others defended the idea of returning after gaining experience abroad. Ethealdiadi noted that while they might leave, the goal should be to come back and contribute to building the country.
The post has continued to draw debate, highlighting the ongoing frustration among young Nigerians over security, opportunity, and governance.
