
A student of the Lagos State University (LASU), identified as Otabor Boluwatife Joseph of the Department of History and International Studies, has died after sustaining severe injuries during a violent armed robbery attack in the Iba area of Lagos State.
According to a statement from the university’s management, the tragic incident occurred off-campus on Friday, May 29, 2026, when the student and some of his friends were attacked by armed robbers.
He was reportedly rushed for medical attention and received treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where his condition was closely monitored by medical personnel.

Despite efforts to save his life, he passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
LASU confirmed his death in an official statement, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and extending condolences to his family, friends, and the university community.
The institution also noted that it provided support to the family through its Students’ Affairs division during the period of hospitalisation.
The university further disclosed that it is working closely with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack, with a view to bringing those responsible to justice.
Authorities and stakeholders have continued to call for improved safety around student residential and off-campus areas as concerns grow over rising insecurity in parts of Lagos.
