
The Lagos State Police Command has foiled an alleged cult initiation ceremony in Egbeda and arrested four suspected cultists during a midnight operation.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives stormed the Egbeda area in Alimosho and apprehended the suspects.
Police recovered one locally made cut-to-size pistol, one English Beretta pistol loaded with 10 live cartridges, and a jack knife at the scene.
The arrested men were identified as Nurudeen Ganiu, 34; Oluwaleke Fagbula, 38; Emmanuel Silas, 41; and Nurudeen Abdullahi, 41.
According to the command, the suspects confessed to being active members of the Eiye Confraternity, a notorious secret cult group linked to violence in Egbeda and surrounding communities.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said investigations revealed that one of the suspects is a suspected cult gang leader and a rusticated student of a university in Ogun State. The student was reportedly expelled in 2022 over cult-related activities.
Police also said the group had been terrorizing residents and disrupting gatherings at gunpoint, using motorcycles to carry out attacks in Alimosho and nearby areas.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, praised the operatives for their professionalism and swift response.
He assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across Lagos.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and share timely, credible information with the police through the command’s emergency lines.
