Residents of the Igando area in Lagos have been left horrified after a couple, identified as Paul Onyeama and Adline Ogbonna, allegedly beat their 10-year-old adopted daughter, Faith, to death.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, April 26, 2026, after weeks of alleged abuse and neglect. Neighbours claimed the young girl had been subjected to frequent assaults and forced to carry out strenuous errands despite her age and worsening health condition.
According to eyewitness accounts, Faith had been ill for about two weeks, but the abuse allegedly continued. The situation escalated when the couple reportedly beat her severely, leading to her death.

Sources revealed that after the incident, the couple rushed the child to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival. Suspicion grew among residents, who had long observed signs of maltreatment, prompting them to raise the alarm.
Angered youths in the community apprehended the suspects before they could allegedly dispose of the body. Reports suggest the husband had earlier left home to get a tricycle, allegedly intending to move the corpse.
The matter was reported at the Igando Police Division, and officers swiftly arrested the couple while recovering the child’s body. Police sources disclosed that preliminary findings indicate the victim was already dead before she was taken to the hospital, contradicting the suspects’ claims.
The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further investigation, as authorities intensify efforts to ensure justice is served.
The incident has sparked outrage across the community, with residents demanding accountability and stronger protection for vulnerable children.
