Manchester United’s push for Champions League qualification received a major boost on Monday night, but post-match attention quickly shifted to Casemiro’s future.
The 34-year-old midfielder delivered a vintage Player of the Match display in United’s 2–1 victory over Brentford, opening the scoring and providing the defensive stability and leadership that have been inconsistent throughout a turbulent season.
Despite widespread reports that Casemiro is set to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires this summer, teammate Matheus Cunha made a public appeal for the club to reconsider.

Cunha, who missed the match through injury, posted an Instagram story of his Brazilian compatriot with the caption: “1 more year Casemiro.” The message underscores the high regard Casemiro still commands within the United dressing room as the squad prepares for a summer of transition.
Manager Michael Carrick, however, maintained a pragmatic stance in his post-match press conference. “It’s still clear from both sides that he will depart this summer,” Carrick said, indicating no change in the club’s position despite Casemiro’s performance and Cunha’s plea.
With United now closer to securing a top-four finish, Casemiro’s remaining games could serve as a farewell tour. While Cunha and sections of the fanbase remain hopeful of a contract extension, signals from the dugout suggest the Brazilian international will move on when the season concludes.
