
Authorities of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi have confirmed the tragic death of a 300-level Biochemistry student, Zaharadeen Nuhu, following a violent attack by suspected thieves.
The incident occurred at a private off-campus hostel located in Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where the student was reportedly assaulted by a group of hoodlums.
He sustained severe machete injuries during the attack and was rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention but sadly passed away in the early hours of Thursday.
The university’s Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim Magawata, disclosed the development in an official statement released in Birnin Kebbi.
He expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the incident as heartbreaking for the institution and the entire student community.

According to the statement, the deceased, who hailed from Niger State, was buried on Thursday after funeral prayers were held at the mosque of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.
The university management has since contacted the Nigeria Police Force in Kalgo Division, and investigations into the incident are currently underway.
Security measures have also been intensified in Kalgo and surrounding off-campus student residential areas.
In response to the incident, the university has scheduled a meeting with private hostel owners in the area to implement stricter safety protocols, including improved lighting and the deployment of night guards.
Students have been urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, avoid late-night movements, and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
The university extended its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all students.
