Suspected bandits have abducted a traditional ruler in a brazen overnight raid on his palace in Olayinka community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, has left residents in shock, especially as the monarch was only recently elevated and officially installed by the Kwara State Government.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the armed men invaded the palace around 1:40 a.m., firing sporadically into the air to instill fear before whisking the monarch away to an unknown destination.
There were initial conflicting reports surrounding the incident. While some community sources claimed that the monarch’s wife and another individual were also abducted, the Kwara State Police Command has refuted this.

The State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed that only the monarch was kidnapped during the attack. He further disclosed that the assailants made away with a substantial amount of money from the palace.
According to the police, the monarch had brought the cash home a day earlier, which may have made the palace a target for the attackers.
This latest incident marks the third abduction of a traditional ruler in Kwara South within the past year, raising growing concerns over the worsening security situation in the region.
Security operatives have since launched efforts to rescue the monarch and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
