Five underage children rescued from suspected human traffickers in Kebbi State have been reunited with their parents after being intercepted while allegedly being transported to Edo State.
The children were reportedly taken from Danko-Wasagu and Zuru Local Government Areas under the pretext of being enrolled in modern schools. They were intercepted in Gusau, Zamfara State, while allegedly being transported towards Edo State.
The Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, represented by his Deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, handed the children over to their parents in Birnin-Kebbi.
During the ceremony, the governor warned parents against handing their children over to strangers whose identities and destinations they could not verify, particularly when such individuals promised better educational opportunities.

The governor also stressed that parents have a responsibility to protect and care for their children, warning that the state government could take appropriate action against those who deliberately neglect their parental responsibilities.
The State Commandant of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Misbau Iya Kaura, disclosed that five suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, while another suspect was still at large.
He appealed to the state government to provide suitable facilities for accommodating rescued victims while investigations continue.
The state government subsequently assured NAPTIP of its commitment to supporting efforts to protect children and combat human trafficking across Kebbi State.
