The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of operating an illicit drug hideout in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, also known as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia, were arrested during a raid carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to the police, the operation followed credible intelligence regarding the activities of suspected illicit drug dealers operating in the area.
During a search of the suspected hideout, police operatives reportedly recovered substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs valued at approximately ₦6.2 million. A total of ₦598,400 in cash was also recovered.

The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
He added that the location was allegedly being used as a gathering point by suspected criminal elements after carrying out their activities. Some individuals reportedly fled the scene after sighting the police.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine the source and distribution network of the suspected illicit drugs, identify other persons linked to the operation and establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered cash.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, assured residents that the command would continue intelligence-led raids and targeted operations aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts across the state.
He also urged residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to provide the police with credible and timely information about suspicious persons, criminal activities and suspected criminal hideouts.
