The Kebbi State Police Command has dismantled an alleged kidnap ring following the arrest of four suspects accused of threatening to abduct a resident unless he paid a ₦30 million ransom.
Police authorities said the investigation began after a resident of Jega Local Government Area reported receiving repeated phone calls from unknown individuals who demanded ₦30 million and warned that he would be kidnapped if he failed to pay.
Acting on the complaint, detectives launched an intelligence-led operation that tracked the suspects to their hideout. The operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals believed to have played various roles in the alleged extortion and kidnap plot.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the victim’s relatives allegedly supplied his newly acquired phone number to the suspects, enabling them to contact and threaten him. Investigators also found that the callers disguised their identities by speaking in a fake Fulani accent in an attempt to intimidate the victim and conceal their true identities.
The suspects are currently in police custody, where they are being interrogated as investigators work to establish whether they are linked to other kidnapping or extortion cases within Kebbi State and neighbouring communities.
Police officials said no ransom was paid and no abduction took place, as the timely report by the victim and swift intervention by security operatives prevented the alleged plot from being carried out.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious calls, threats, or unusual activities to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains essential in preventing kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
