A man who posed as an EFCC operative has pleaded guilty to impersonation and fraud charges before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kubwa, Abuja.
Salifu Olije Mustapha was arraigned before Justice A.I. Akobi on a four-count charge bordering on impersonation, misrepresentation, and fraudulent activities. According to the EFCC, Mustapha falsely presented himself as an officer of the anti-graft agency and took part in operations designed to deceive residents and extort money.
Prosecutors told the court that in March 2026, the defendant also posed as a Nigerian Air Force officer and worked with two other suspects to carry out the scam. The trio allegedly wore fake EFCC uniforms and drove around Abuja in a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTU399GT, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

One of the charges stated that Mustapha drove the group to Sheriff Plaza in Wuse II, where they posed as EFCC operatives to commit fraud. Another charge accused him of impersonating a public servant by falsely claiming to be a Nigerian Air Force officer to deceive and extort victims.
When the charges were read, Mustapha pleaded guilty to all four counts. Prosecution counsel R.U. Adaga urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly. Justice Akobi adjourned the case to June 1, 2026, for sentencing.
The EFCC said Mustapha was arrested after security intelligence linked him to the impersonation scheme. Investigations revealed he and his accomplices were seen wearing fake EFCC uniforms, harassing motorists and collecting money under false pretences in Abuja.
