The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an investigation into the alleged assault and harassment of staff at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital by operatives of the commission.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 12 when armed EFCC operatives visited the hospital over an alleged fake medical report linked to Eyo Ekpe.
The operation sparked outrage after claims emerged that hospital workers were assaulted and arrested without prior notice to management.
In a statement shared on the commission’s official X handle, Olukoyede expressed regret over the incident and directed that an official apology be issued to those affected.
He stressed that any officer found to have violated professional standards would face internal disciplinary action.

The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Ememabasi Bassey, condemned the conduct of the operatives, insisting they failed to notify hospital authorities or present an arrest warrant before entering Ekpe’s office.
Meanwhile, the hospital chapters of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria and the Association of Resident Doctors embarked on industrial action, demanding sanctions against the officers involved, compensation for affected workers, and public apologies.
Despite the controversy, the EFCC maintained that it would continue its anti-corruption operations across the country while working with stakeholders to prevent a repeat of the incident.
