The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a former chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ekiti State chapter, Rotimi Joseph Olabiowonu, popularly known as “Metilo,” alongside another suspect, over the alleged abduction, assault and murder of a 45-year-old man, Ogunsakin Sunday.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night, September 14, 2026, in Afao-Ekiti, following a dispute reportedly linked to land.
According to the police, Metilo and about five other alleged accomplices arrived at the victim’s residence in a Toyota bus, allegedly dragged him out, assaulted him and took him away.
Police said the victim was allegedly pushed from the moving vehicle and sustained severe head injuries. He was later taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), where he was confirmed dead.

Following a report of the incident, police commenced investigations, leading to the arrest of Metilo and another suspect identified as Adedoyin Opeyemi. Other alleged accomplices remain at large as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and conduct a comprehensive investigation.
The police said anyone found culpable would face justice and urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
