The Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, has pledged a decisive crackdown on cult-related violence following a disturbing wave of killings in Naka Town.
Describing the attacks as “senseless and barbaric,” the chairman made this known during a condolence visit to the affected community on Thursday, where he reassured residents of urgent action to restore peace.
Naka, the administrative headquarters of Gwer West, has in recent days been gripped by rising violence linked to suspected cult activities, leaving several families mourning and the community living in fear.
Accompanied by the Divisional Police Officer, DSP Gazma Chazam, Victor visited bereaved families to assess the situation firsthand and express the government’s sympathy.
Eyewitnesses recounted a particularly shocking incident at the residence of youth leader, Iorkohol Peter, where over 20 teenagers reportedly between the ages of 13 and 15 allegedly carried out a coordinated attack using stones and pestles.
In a separate incident, a resident identified as Tarbo Moses, popularly known as “Hot Body,” lost his life after sustaining severe injuries during an attack, despite efforts to save him at a private hospital.
Visibly shaken by the incidents, the chairman vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
