The Rivers State Police Command has detained a police officer allegedly involved in a shooting that claimed the life of a 22-year-old motorist, Anthony Obodo, in Port Harcourt.
The Command confirmed the development in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe Kaborlo.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that an altercation occurred between Obodo and the officer on August 27, 2026, which later escalated into a scuffle.
During the incident, a gun was discharged, resulting in the death of Obodo and injuries to two passers-by.
The officer involved was identified as Corporal Alfred Louis. Following the shooting, an angry mob reportedly attacked and assaulted the officer, leaving him with multiple injuries.
The Rivers State Police Command said the officer and members of his team had been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Police authorities said appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found culpable after the conclusion of the investigation.

The Command condemned the circumstances surrounding the incident, stressing that such conduct does not represent the standards of professionalism expected from police personnel.
It also assured members of the public that it would not protect any officer found guilty of unethical or unlawful conduct capable of damaging the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
Anthony Obodo was said to have recently graduated from the University of Port Harcourt.
The investigation into the fatal shooting is ongoing.
