The Plateau State Police Command has arrested some female students following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing a group of students assaulting another female student in Pankshin Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Friday in Jos.
According to Alabo, the Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, ordered the Area Commander in Pankshin to immediately investigate the incident and apprehend those involved after the command became aware of the video.
He explained that the suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation after preliminary inquiries are completed.
The police spokesperson added that those found culpable would be prosecuted in court at the conclusion of the investigation.

Alabo condemned the alleged assault and warned residents, particularly young people, against resorting to violence or taking the law into their own hands.
He also cautioned that recording and sharing violent incidents on social media could attract additional criminal charges, including offences relating to cybercrime.
The police urged members of the public to report disputes, grievances and suspected criminal activities to the appropriate authorities instead of attempting to administer their own form of justice.
The command further appealed to residents to provide timely and credible information that could help security agencies intervene before conflicts escalate.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the students involved are reportedly from the Federal University of Education, Pankshin.
The police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
