
The Suspects
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested three suspected vandals over the alleged destruction and illegal sale of components of a public electricity transformer in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area.
The suspects Muhammad Auwali (51), also known as Aburare, Inusa Lawan (53), and Hassan Ibrahim (27) were apprehended on Tuesday by operatives of the Garin Alkali Division following credible intelligence linking them to the crime.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, the suspects allegedly conspired to vandalise a transformer located at the YTV Booster Station, dismantled it, and sold off parts of its metal components.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects conspired to vandalize a transformer at the YTV Booster Station, Garin Alkali. They dismantled the transformer and sold some of its metal components,” the statement read.
One accomplice, identified simply as Ozu, is currently on the run, while efforts are ongoing to track and arrest him. The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation, revealing that some of the stolen parts were sold for N250,000, with N150,000 already paid.

Police operatives have since recovered parts of the vandalised transformer, and investigations are ongoing. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kamfani Jibrin, praised the operatives for their swift response and reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for vandalism, warning that perpetrators would find no safe haven in the state.
He also cautioned scrap dealers against patronising suspicious materials, urging full cooperation with security agencies, and called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
