A fire outbreak in the early hours of Sunday partially destroyed a commercial-residential building in Ilorin, Kwara State, leaving property worth thousands of naira damaged.
The incident, which occurred around 4:56 a.m., affected a building located at No. 28 Ijoro Street, off Asa-Dam Road. The structure comprises a two-bedroom apartment and seven adjoining shops.
According to the Kwara State Fire Service, only one of the shops was directly impacted by the fire, thanks to the swift intervention of firefighters who prevented the blaze from spreading to other parts of the building.
Items destroyed in the affected shop include grinding machines, foodstuffs, and other valuable goods.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adekunle, disclosed that preliminary findings point to a power surge as the cause of the fire, which ignited combustible materials within the shop.
