A disturbing incident has unfolded at Erhavwe Secondary School in Ekrerahavwe, Agbarho Kingdom, Delta State, where teachers were violently attacked by suspected thugs allegedly invited by a female student.
The Vice Principal, Mr. Lucky Otuaga, alongside the school’s Mathematics teacher, Mr. Charles Ovwigho, and the Chairman of the Education Committee, Mr. Edematie Sunday, recounted their ordeal following the May 14 invasion of the school premises.
According to the school authorities, the incident began after the Mathematics teacher confiscated a mobile phone from a female student who was reportedly causing distractions during class.
The situation escalated when the student allegedly contacted individuals outside the school, leading to a coordinated attack.
Narrating his experience, Mr. Ovwigho explained that the student repeatedly disrupted his lesson by watching and sharing video content during class.
After seizing the phone in line with school regulations, the student reportedly became agitated and threatened to involve her father.
“Not long after, a group of boys stormed the school, shouting and demanding to see the teacher who ‘assaulted’ her. They attacked me immediately,” he said.
The Vice Principal, Mr. Otuaga, confirmed that the attackers also assaulted him while he attempted to intervene.
“I was attending to a parent when I heard a commotion. As I rushed out, I was attacked from behind while trying to restore order. I sustained injuries during the incident,” he stated.

Mr. Sunday, who also suffered an injury to his eye, disclosed that the student allegedly contacted her boyfriend and three others, who carried out the attack.
He added that community vigilantes and law enforcement officers were promptly involved, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
The school management has strongly denied allegations circulating within the community suggesting inappropriate conduct by the teacher. Both the Vice Principal and the teacher dismissed such claims as false and unfounded.
The Principal, Mrs. Patience Ekakitie, condemned the incident, describing it as both shocking and unacceptable.
She confirmed that the matter is currently before a Magistrate Court in Agbarho but noted that efforts are ongoing to reach an amicable resolution.
Meanwhile, the student at the center of the controversy has been placed on indefinite suspension in line with school disciplinary measures.
Authorities, including the Nigerian Union of Teachers and the Delta State Ministry of Education, have intervened in the matter. However, affected staff members say the psychological and physical impact of the attack remains significant.
The incident, which was captured in a viral video, has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for improved security in schools and stricter enforcement of student conduct policies.
