The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnap plotter and foiled an alleged plan to abduct a pastor and a retired school principal in Ughelli, preventing what authorities described as a planned criminal operation.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jeremiah Kwane, was apprehended by operatives of the “A” Division, Ughelli, following credible intelligence that he had allegedly attempted to recruit an individual into a kidnapping syndicate to carry out the planned abductions.
Police said the intelligence prompted a swift operation, leading to the suspect’s arrest at his workplace before the alleged plot could be executed.
A search conducted during the operation resulted in the recovery of a single-barrel gun and two live cartridges, which police believe were linked to the suspected criminal plan. The recovered items have been taken into custody as investigations continue.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development, stating that detectives are expanding their investigation to uncover other members of the suspected syndicate and determine the full extent of the alleged kidnapping plot.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state. He assured residents that security operatives would continue to pursue criminal elements and dismantle their networks.
The commissioner also appealed to members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and improve security across Delta State.
