Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has strongly condemned the killing of a 28-year-old musician, Oghenemine “Mena” Ogidi, allegedly shot by a police officer in Effurun, describing the act as “barbaric” and unjustifiable.
In an official statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor expressed deep shock over the incident, emphasizing that no citizen deserves to be subjected to such brutality or unlawful death.
Oborevwori stated that the killing, allegedly carried out by ASP Nuhu Usman, represents a grave violation of human life and the rule of law.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of the government’s commitment to justice and accountability.
“The protection of lives remains paramount under my administration. No citizen should suffer such a fate,” the governor affirmed.

He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for their swift response, including the dismissal and planned prosecution of officers implicated in the incident.
The disciplinary decision has been forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final ratification.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on April 26, 2026, when police operatives in Effurun reportedly intercepted Ogidi over allegations of attempting to transport a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and ammunition.
During the operation, the officer allegedly discharged his weapon, resulting in the musician’s death.
Authorities have since concluded internal disciplinary procedures, paving the way for criminal prosecution.
Governor Oborevwori assured the public that the state government will closely monitor the case to ensure justice is served, while reaffirming his administration’s dedication to upholding human rights and maintaining public trust in security institutions.
