
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of acting as an informant for bandits following a case involving threats and a ₦10 million extortion demand.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the incident was reported on April 9, 2026, after a resident raised alarm over repeated threatening phone calls from unidentified individuals.
The victim disclosed that the callers demanded ₦10 million and issued death threats if the money was not paid, creating serious fear for his safety.
Acting swiftly, police detectives launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Usman Isah. During the operation, officers also recovered charms allegedly used to facilitate his criminal activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting he conspired with his brother, who is currently on the run. He also reportedly confessed to involvement in similar offences in the past.

The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, while the suspect in custody will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Ali Umar Fage, has directed intensified efforts to track down all individuals linked to the crime.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to clamping down on informants and collaborators aiding banditry and other criminal activities.
Residents have been urged to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or threats to security agencies.
