Three miners were shot dead by suspected gunmen in a fresh attack in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, deepening concerns over persistent insecurity in parts of the state.
The victims were reportedly attacked on Thursday evening while returning from a mining site in the Fubok area of Daffo District. Witnesses said the gunmen ambushed the miners along the GSS Daffo Road and opened fire, killing three of them at the scene.
A community leader in Bokkos confirmed the incident, stating that the victims had concluded their day’s work and were on their way home when the attackers struck. The motive behind the attack was not immediately known.
The deceased were identified as Maren Agom, 45, from Tadai Village in Manguna District; Joe Buba, 38, from Josho Village in Daffo District; and a third victim identified simply as Mr Yellow.
Their bodies were later recovered and taken to Alheri Medical Centre in Daffo, where they were deposited pending further arrangements by their families.

Residents said security personnel were alerted immediately after the incident. According to local sources, security operatives have begun efforts to track down those responsible, while additional personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks.
The latest killings add to a series of violent incidents that have affected communities in Bokkos and other parts of Plateau State in recent months, with residents continuing to call for stronger security measures.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the attack, and attempts to obtain confirmation from the command were unsuccessful.
