One Of The Officers
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, has ordered the summary trial of two police officers captured in a viral video allegedly extorting a civilian within a police station in Asaba.
The officers, Inspector Augustine Jeremiah (AP No. 262712) and Corporal Miracle Ehirim (F/No. 519970), are to face an orderly trial, with proceedings expected to be concluded the same day.
The directive follows the circulation of a video showing a man being compelled to transfer ₦51,500 via a point-of-sale terminal while a uniformed officer stood by inside the C Division Police Station.
Confirming the development, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed in a post on X that the command had taken swift disciplinary action.
“The Delta State Commissioner of Police has ordered the summary trial of the officers captured in the embarrassing video. The trial will be concluded today, and the outcome will be made public. Say no to impunity,” Edafe stated.

The video, which lasts over three minutes, was shared online by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu. It shows the victim holding two mobile phones while completing the transaction under supervision.
A close-up in the footage revealed a successful Moniepoint transfer of ₦51,500 to an account identified as “POS Transfer Sunday Racheal Kewe.”
Gwamnishu alleged that point-of-sale operators are routinely stationed within some police facilities to facilitate extortion payments.
Reacting to the incident, the Police Complaint Response Unit confirmed that the officers have been identified, arrested, and detained.
The unit added that the Inspector-General of Police has directed that the suspects be transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, April 20, for further investigation.
A complaint tracking number, CRU000073, has also been issued.
The Delta State Police Command earlier described the officers’ conduct as “embarrassing,” reaffirming its stance against misconduct and abuse of power within the force.
