The Lagos State Police Command yesterday confirmed it had commenced the trial of four of its men caught on video for alleged extortion.

Spokesman for the command, Ben Hundeyin made the confirmation on his X handle @BenHundeyin in reaction to an X user Oluyemi Fasipe AICMC @YemieFash who alleged that the officers extorted N1million from three NYSC members in Surulere, Lagos on Thursday.

According to the informer, the victims were “threatened with firearms, kidnapped (sic), and taken to the KAFARU OLUWOLE TINUBU HOUSE AREA C POLICE COMMAND of the @LagosPoliceNG where they were robbed. Their offence was the absence of a physical copy of a driver’s licence.”

Printouts of the alleged POS transactions and what appeared to be a voice recording of the ‘extortion’ were attached to the complaint.

Hundeyin asked the complainants to “visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to testify at the ongoing trial.”
