Residents and youth groups in southern parts of Borno State have intensified mobilisation efforts ahead of a planned protest over worsening insecurity, kidnappings and killings in the region.
The demonstration is scheduled to take place on May 11, 2026, in Maiduguri, and is being organised by the Borno South Youth Association.
Organisers say the protest is aimed at drawing urgent attention to the persistent attacks affecting communities across southern Borno.
Areas such as Askira Uba, Chibok and Biu have continued to experience repeated incidents of violence, abductions and loss of lives despite ongoing security operations.
In a notice circulated by the organisers, the group demanded the immediate rescue of 416 women and children reportedly abducted by insurgents, as well as the release of 12 victims kidnapped in Biu.

They also called for an end to killings and attacks in the affected local government areas.
The protest is expected to commence at 8:30 a.m. at Filing Polo in Maiduguri, with participants encouraged to wear black, green and red to symbolise unity and solidarity.
President of the association, Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, urged residents, civil society organisations and media groups to support the protest, stressing the need for collective action to address the security crisis.
Southern Borno remains one of the areas most impacted by insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East, with communities facing years of displacement, repeated attacks and humanitarian challenges.
The planned protest reflects growing frustration among residents who say more decisive measures are needed to restore safety and stability in the region.
