Braimah, who commanded the 29 Task Force Brigade, was killed during a coordinated assault on a military base by suspected insurgents last Thursday.
In a video circulating online, the suspect, speaking in Hausa, admitted to participating in previous attacks in Benisheik and Ngamdu.
He disclosed that he had been sent from a location identified as Jilli with a large sum of money to obtain logistics before his arrest.
“I was sent with money to get supplies, but I was intercepted by soldiers,” he said, adding that he left other fighters behind and was unaware of their current situation.
As of the time of reporting, military authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the arrest, but the development marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s northeast.
