Two men have reportedly lost their lives while manually evacuating sewage in Aba, Abia State.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Power Line area along Omuma Road in Aba.
The incident was confirmed in a statement released by the Abia State Orientation Agency on Friday. According to the agency, the victims died while carrying out the illegal and hazardous practice of manually cleaning sewage.
The agency warned residents against engaging in manual sewage evacuation, stressing that the practice poses serious health and safety risks.
“This notice follows the tragic loss of two men who died while evacuating sewage manually at Power Line, off Omuma Road, Aba, on Monday, August 10, 2026,” the statement read.

The agency urged residents and property owners to make use of approved sewage evacuation services to prevent similar incidents.
It also advised individuals and business owners to obtain waste collection buckets from approved vendors and dispose of waste properly, warning against indiscriminate dumping.
Emphasising the importance of environmental sanitation, the agency reminded residents that maintaining a clean environment is essential for the well-being of both individuals and their communities.
