
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have killed a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a security operation in Benue State.
The operation took place at Jotar Village near the Quarantine Checkpoint after security forces acted on intelligence about suspected kidnappers operating in the area.
According to military authorities, the troops encountered armed suspects shortly after arriving at the location. A gun battle followed, during which one suspected kidnapper was killed. Security personnel also recovered an AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines from the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased may have been linked to the attack on commuters along the route on July 1, an incident in which a former Secretary to the Benue State Government was shot and injured.
The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke praised the troops for their bravery and professionalism, urging them to sustain ongoing operations against criminal groups across the region.
He also emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing and cooperation among security agencies in improving security. Residents were encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts to protect lives and property in Benue State.
