Troops of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal oil bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State, leading to the arrest of six suspected oil bunkerers during a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the 65 Battalion under the leadership of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, following credible intelligence on illegal oil-related activities within the area.
During the raid, security operatives apprehended six suspects believed to be involved in the illicit operation. They also recovered four trucks, a pumping machine, and several pipes and drums allegedly used to siphon and transport petroleum products.
Military authorities said the suspects, along with the recovered equipment, have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Army described the operation as part of its ongoing efforts to curb illegal bunkering, protect critical national infrastructure, and combat economic sabotage across its operational areas.

Commending the troops for the successful mission, the General Officer Commanding the 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, urged them to remain resolute in tackling criminal activities and safeguarding national assets.
He encouraged the soldiers to sustain offensive operations against economic sabotage and other security threats within the division’s area of responsibility, emphasizing the Army’s commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and protecting Nigeria’s resources.
The latest operation highlights the continued collaboration between security agencies in disrupting illegal oil theft networks and preserving the country’s economic interests.
