Six workers have been rescued alive after a processing mill partially collapsed in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, averting what could have been a tragic industrial accident.
The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, triggered a swift emergency response from the Kano State Command of the Federal Fire Service.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Al-Hassan Ahmad Kantin, the distress call was received at approximately 6:45 p.m., reporting that a section of the commercial facility had caved in and trapped workers beneath the debris.
Firefighters from the Danzaki Fire Station were immediately deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that part of the mill had collapsed, leaving several workers trapped.
Rescue teams promptly secured the area and commenced operations using specialised equipment, including grinding machines and shovels, to carefully remove the rubble and reach the victims.
After hours of intensive effort, all six workers were successfully pulled out alive and given emergency medical attention.

Kantin described the operation as a success, attributing it to the professionalism, rapid response, and technical expertise of the rescue personnel.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the collapse was caused by excessive loading of heavy raw materials and inventory on the upper sections of the building, which compromised its structural integrity.
Authorities also noted that the damage was confined to a single section—Milling Unit 1—preventing the incident from escalating into a wider structural failure.
While parts of the building and materials estimated at about ₦10 million were destroyed, the rescue operation helped save property valued at approximately ₦15 million.
Following the incident, the Kano State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Kazeem Sholadoye Oyefola, commended the rescue team for their efficiency and urged factory owners, developers, and landlords to prioritise routine structural safety inspections, especially during the rainy season.
