Three persons have been confirmed dead following a violent clash between a tricycle rider and suspected touts, popularly known as agberos, in the Ikola area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 27, after a disagreement reportedly broke out over a N200 payment allegedly demanded from the tricycle rider.
Preliminary findings indicated that the rider was stopped by suspected area boys, who allegedly demanded N200 from him. However, the rider reportedly refused to pay, leading to the seizure of his tricycle by the group.
The situation later escalated after the rider allegedly returned to the area with other persons, resulting in a violent confrontation between the two groups.
During the clash, three persons were reportedly killed, while two others sustained injuries. Some buildings were also said to have been set ablaze as the violence spread through parts of the community.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Command said the bodies of the deceased and the injured victims were taken to the Military Hospital in Yaba for necessary medical attention and other procedures.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, alongside the Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 9 Brigade, Brig. Gen. Afolabi Owolabi, visited the scene to assess the situation and coordinate the security response.
Police operatives, including personnel from the Rapid Response Squad, Taskforce, Tactical Squad, Police Mobile Force, Eko Strike Force and other units, were subsequently deployed to restore calm and maintain law and order.
The police said the situation had been brought under control and an investigation was underway to identify and prosecute those responsible for the violence.
Residents were urged to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
