Osun Poly Student Dies After Alleged Stabbing During NANS Convention in Osogbo -

A student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Ademiju Ayeni, has reportedly died after sustaining a stab wound during the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee convention in Osogbo, Osun State.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, where the students’ convention was being held.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed the student’s death, stating that Ayeni sustained a stab injury to his chest following a disagreement during the programme.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the disagreement between Ayeni and some individuals had initially been resolved before participants dispersed.

According to him, Ayeni later complained of chest pain, and an examination revealed that he had suffered a stab wound.

“He was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The body has been deposited, and an autopsy will be conducted,” Ojelabi said.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the command was aware of the incident but did not disclose whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the death.

Meanwhile, the NANS South-West Coordinator, Josiah Adeyemo, said preliminary information suggested that the incident may have been cult-related.

“According to reports reaching me, it was cult-related. They fought for a few minutes, and then he was stabbed,” Adeyemo said.

He noted that the convention itself had proceeded peacefully before the confrontation reportedly occurred outside the venue.

Sources who attended the convention alleged that Ayeni was stabbed by a member of the programme’s security committee while attempting to gain access to the venue. However, this claim has not been independently confirmed by the police.

The matter was reportedly reported at the Dada Estate Police Station, while Ayeni’s remains were deposited at the morgue of the Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH), pending an autopsy.

The circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain under investigation.
