Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP member who allegedly fled a terrorist enclave in Borno State following sustained military airstrikes.
The suspect, identified as Ahmad Sheriff, 27, was intercepted at about 10:12 a.m. on May 31 during a patrol along the Kukawa–Cross Kauwa axis in Kukawa Local Government Area. Military sources said he was travelling with two children when troops conducting routine operations stopped him.
During preliminary interrogation, Sheriff reportedly told investigators that he escaped from Kangarawa, a known terrorist hideout, after air strikes targeted the area. He claimed he had fled alongside 17 others but was separated from the group after encountering armed fighters in the bush.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who first reported the development, said the suspect had spent about seven years with the Boko Haram/ISWAP group and is a native of Doron Baga in Kukawa LGA. Items recovered from him include a smartphone, 43 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a solar panel, a power bank, sunglasses, a mosquito net, clothing, and N48,000 in cash.
Military authorities said the suspect is now in custody for further profiling and investigation. The arrest comes as troops sustain coordinated ground and air operations across the Lake Chad region aimed at dismantling insurgent camps and reducing the operational capacity of terrorist groups.
