West Ham United have confirmed that head coach Nuno Espírito Santo will remain in charge despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League, as preparations begin for an immediate return to the top flight.
West Ham were relegated on the final day of the season despite securing a victory over Leeds United.
The result was not enough to preserve their Premier League status, with the club finishing on 39 points the highest total recorded by a relegated side in 15 years.
Following internal discussions earlier in the week, the club and Nuno Espírito Santo agreed to continue working together, with both parties expressing commitment to the project of restoring West Ham to top-flight football at the first attempt.
The club acknowledged that although relegation was a significant disappointment, there have been encouraging signs of progress under Nuno since his appointment.
He was brought in on a three-year deal after replacing Graham Potter, with both sides previously holding the option to end the contract following relegation.

West Ham also highlighted Nuno’s strong Championship record, particularly his 99-point title-winning campaign with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018, as evidence of his suitability to lead the promotion push.
He is now expected to oversee a major rebuild as the club sets its sights on an immediate return to the Premier League.
The hierarchy believes continuity in leadership will help stabilize the squad and maintain direction during a challenging transition period.
Key figures, including captain Jarrod Bowen, are expected to remain central to the team’s plans as West Ham attempt to recover quickly from relegation.
Nuno’s tenure so far has produced 12 wins in 37 matches at the London Stadium, following a turbulent season that saw managerial changes and inconsistent performances before his arrival.
Despite the setback, the club remains confident that retaining the Portuguese manager provides the strongest foundation for a swift return to the top flight.
