
Southampton F.C. have expressed deep sorrow following the death of former academy winger Victor Udoh, who passed away at the age of 21.
The club confirmed the tragic news on Tuesday, May 27, 2026, joining the growing list of teams and supporters paying tribute to the young Nigerian footballer whose career showed early promise across Europe.
Udoh spent six months at Southampton after joining their academy in February 2025. During his time with the club’s Under-21 side, he featured in eight Premier League 2 matches and scored two goals, quickly establishing himself as an exciting attacking option within the youth setup.
Before his spell in England, Udoh developed in Belgium with Royal Antwerp F.C., where he progressed through the academy and later broke into the senior team.

He made 28 appearances for the club after impressing at youth level, scoring regularly for the “Young Reds” and earning recognition for his attacking output.
Following his departure from Southampton in 2025, the winger continued his career in the Czech Republic with SK Dynamo České Budějovice, where he sought to further develop his professional journey.
In a statement, Southampton described the news as devastating, sending condolences to Udoh’s family, friends, and loved ones. The club emphasized that everyone at Southampton was deeply affected by the loss of their former player.
Royal Antwerp also paid tribute, expressing shock and sadness while offering support to those close to him.
Udoh, once regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising young attacking talents in Europe, is remembered for his pace, creativity, and potential that marked him out as a rising star before his untimely passing.
