Allegations have emerged against the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu State (FUAHSE), Prof. John Emaimo, over claims of financial misconduct linked to a change-of-course exercise and delays affecting the graduation of some students.
According to reports from students and staff members, over 200 students were asked to payl ₦50,000 each as an application fee for a change-of-course process introduced after the approval of new academic programmes at the institution.
The students allege that despite making the payments, none of the applications has been successful, and no refunds or official feedback have been provided.
Some of the affected students described the situation as frustrating, claiming that the exercise created expectations of academic progression that were not fulfilled.
Beyond the change-of-course complaints, additional allegations have surfaced regarding students who studied under the institution’s previous affiliation with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
It was alleged that several graduates who completed their studies years ago have been unable to obtain their results, certificates, or clearance for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Sources within the institution also claimed that administrative bottlenecks and unresolved affiliation issues have contributed to the delays in processing academic records.
The situation, according to some staff members, has left many graduates in limbo years after completing their programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emaimo, who has led the institution in different capacities for over a decade, has also been accused by some insiders of weak administrative oversight and limited statutory governance meetings.
However, these claims remain allegations and have not been independently verified.
In response, a university spokesperson stated that change-of-course applications are subject to departmental capacity and academic requirements, and not all applicants can be approved.
The spokesperson also noted that application fees are generally non-refundable, as outcomes depend on eligibility and available space in departments.
As of the time of filing this report, the university management had not issued a detailed response to the specific allegations of extortion or the claims regarding delayed graduation processes.
