Enugu State PRO: Daniel Ndukwe
The Enugu State Police Command has initiated an investigation into allegations of extortion by security personnel along major routes in Nsukka, following a viral complaint on social media.
The allegation was raised by an X user, DJ SpoiltKid (@spoiltkid), who claimed that motorists and commercial riders are routinely forced to make illegal payments at multiple checkpoints across the area.
In the post shared on Monday, the user described the situation as alarming, alleging that commuters travelling between Odenigbo and Ogrute encounter several checkpoints operated by both police and military personnel, where they are compelled to “settle” before proceeding.
He further noted that commercial operators, including tricycle and motorcycle riders, are particularly affected, despite already grappling with rising fuel costs and multiple levies.

Reacting to the claims, the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, Daniel Ndukwe, assured that the command would take immediate action on the matter.
He stated that the complaint had been escalated for prompt investigation and reaffirmed the command’s stance against any form of unprofessional conduct among its officers.
Ndukwe also urged the complainant to provide additional evidence, including a clearer version of the image attached to the post, to aid the investigation.
The development comes amid ongoing public concerns over alleged extortion at security checkpoints in various parts of the country, with calls for stricter monitoring and accountability within security agencies.
